Our Beliefs
The Bible. We believe that the Bible is God’s Word, and therefore true and reliable in all it says. It tells us all that we need to know in order to be able to have a right relationship with God and it tells us the best way to live for him in his world. Because it is God’s Word, we need God’s help to understand it; he does that through the work of his Spirit.
God. We believe that there is only one God, but that he exists as three equally glorious persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We also believe that God is the creator of everything, and that he continues to rule over all things. His character is perfect and as such he knows what is best for us.
Humanity. We believe that God made humanity in his image, to reflect his glory and to enjoy him forever. But humankind rebelled against God and we wanted to be God ourselves, since that first rebellion every part of each one of us is spoiled by sin. Because of our rebellious attitude and nature we cannot rescue ourselves! Our only hope is for God to intervene, and rescue us himself.
Jesus. We believe that God himself became one of us, in the person of his Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the eternal Son of God become fully human, yet also fully God. Therefore, everything that Jesus said was true and authoritative; all that he did was good and just. Most significantly, Jesus came to suffer and die in the place of sinners; this was God’s act of rescue to bring humanity back to him. But Jesus didn’t remain dead; he rose back to life from the grave, and then ascended back into heaven where he now represents his people at his Father’s side.
Salvation. We believe that human beings can be saved and rescued only by trusting in Jesus and all that he has done. Trusting in Jesus involves repenting of sin and turning from sin and changing to live for God. The Holy Spirit’s work is essential for a Christian to serve and worship God, and become more like Jesus in character and obedience.
The Church. We believe that Jesus is head of the Church, which consists of all people who are trusting in him. Such believers gather in local churches, yet share fellowship together as part of the one worldwide Church. New believers are baptised and then share in the regular Lord’s Supper meal that Jesus instituted as a remembrance of him.
The Future. We believe that at some point in the future Jesus will return to bring an end to this world. It will be a day of judgement when the dead will be raised and the eternal destiny of all people will be sealed: perfect happiness for those who have been rescued by Jesus, yet eternal punishment for those who have remained in rebellion against God.
